Box Ikkat Pure Katan Silk Saree
Box Ikkat Pure Katan Silk Saree
Low stock: 1 left
Bold, dramatic, and deeply rooted in craft — this Box Ikkat Pure Katan Silk Saree from Aananda Collections is a rare fusion of two great weaving traditions: the resist-dyed artistry of Ikkat and the lustrous plain weave of Bishnupur Katan Silk. A saree that carries the geometry of ancient textile art in every thread.
Colour & Design: A striking Patli Pallu saree with a dual-tone maroon and green body that transitions into a crisp ice blue checker pattern on the pallu and pleats — a colour shift that is both unexpected and deeply satisfying. A broad Ikkat border at the lower edge adds a bold geometric statement, its characteristic soft-edged motifs a testament to the precision of resist-dyeing. The plain ice blue blouse piece complements the pallu beautifully, completing the ensemble with a clean, contemporary finish.
Fabric: Pure Katan Silk — woven using pure silk yarns in a plain weave, known for its smooth texture, natural lustre, durability, and resistance to wrinkling. Crafted in the tradition of Bishnupur, Bankura — West Bengal's celebrated silk weaving heritage.
Blouse: Plain ice blue blouse piece (included in the 6.09 metres).
Size: 6.09 metres approx. (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches
Occasion: Weddings, receptions, festive celebrations, and special occasions where bold, artisanal elegance makes a statement.
Wash Care: Dry clean only.
Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.
Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. As this is a handwoven Ikkat saree, slight variations in motif alignment are inherent to the resist-dyeing technique and a mark of authentic craftsmanship.

Saree Chronicle
Saree Chronicle
Katan Silk is one of Bengal's finest weaving traditions, rooted in the looms of Bishnupur in Bankura district, West Bengal — a historic town celebrated for its terracotta temples, classical music, and centuries-old silk weaving heritage. Woven using pure silk yarns in a plain weave, Katan is prized for its smooth, lustrous finish, lightweight drape, and exceptional durability — a fabric that becomes more supple and radiant with every wear. The Ikkat technique — one of the world's oldest resist-dyeing traditions — adds another layer of extraordinary artistry to this saree. The word "Ikkat" is derived from the Malay-Indonesian word "mengikat," meaning to tie or bind. In Ikkat weaving, the threads are carefully bound with resist material and dip-dyed in precise patterns before they are placed on the loom. When the threads are woven together, the pre-dyed sections align to form the intended motif — but because the dye bleeds slightly at the edges of the resist, the resulting pattern has a characteristic soft, feathered outline that is the unmistakable signature of authentic Ikkat. "Box Ikkat" refers specifically to a geometric Ikkat pattern where the motifs are arranged in a grid or box formation — a bold, structured design vocabulary that contrasts beautifully with the fluid, organic quality of the Ikkat dyeing process itself. The combination of Bishnupur Katan Silk and Box Ikkat weaving in this saree represents a meeting of two of Bengal's most distinguished textile traditions — the luminous plain weave of Katan and the ancient, meditative art of resist-dyeing — woven together into a single, extraordinary piece.
