Green Pure Silk Berhampuri Saree
Green Pure Silk Berhampuri Saree
Low stock: 1 left
Some sarees are made. This one was summoned — from the looms of Berhampur, from the hands of two weavers working in quiet unison, from a tradition that has dressed Odishan women in silk and ceremony since the 14th century. The Green Pure Silk Berhampuri Saree arrives in a dual tone of emerald green and deep magenta — colours that feel both ancient and alive.
Colour & Design: An emerald green pure silk body, luminous and smooth, meets a contrast magenta temple border woven with floral butas. The handwoven double pallu unfolds in a burst of multicolour — stripes, motifs, and zari threads catching the light with every movement. It is the kind of saree that turns heads before you've said a word.
Fabric & Weave: Woven in pure silk on a pit loom by two weavers simultaneously — the traditional method that gives Berhampuri sarees their characteristic density, sheen, and structural integrity. The Kumbha (Phoda Kumbha) temple motifs along the border are not printed or embroidered — they are woven in, thread by thread, as they have always been.
Blouse: Matching magenta blouse piece with a handwoven green temple border (included in the 6.24 metres).
Size: 6.24 metres (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches
Occasion: Weddings, pujas, festive gatherings, and any occasion where you want to wear something that carries both beauty and meaning.
Wash Care: Dry clean only. Store in a muslin cloth away from direct sunlight to preserve the silk's natural lustre.
Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.
Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. Each saree is handwoven — slight variations are a mark of authentic craft.

Saree Chronicle
Saree Chronicle
Berhampur — known as the Silk City of Odisha — has been weaving Berhampuri Patta sarees since the 14th century, making it one of the oldest continuous silk weaving traditions in eastern India. The city sits in the Ganjam district of Odisha, and its weavers have long been celebrated for producing sarees of extraordinary density, sheen, and structural beauty. What distinguishes Berhampuri weaving from other silk traditions is its method: each saree is woven on a pit loom by two weavers working simultaneously — one managing the warp threads, the other the weft — a collaborative technique that allows for the complex interlocking of colours and motifs that defines the Berhampuri aesthetic. The Kumbha or Phoda Kumbha temple motif — a stylised representation of the temple spire or kalasha (sacred pot) — is the most iconic element of Berhampuri design, woven directly into the border thread by thread rather than printed or embroidered. This motif connects the saree to Odisha's rich tradition of temple architecture and sacred art, particularly the towering spires of the Jagannath Temple in Puri and the Sun Temple at Konark. The double pallu — a distinctive feature of Berhampuri sarees — is woven with a richer, more complex pattern than the body, often incorporating multiple colours, stripes, and zari threads to create a dramatic, celebratory end piece. Berhampuri Patta sarees are protected under India's Geographical Indication (GI) registry, recognising their cultural heritage and the geographical specificity of their craft. Each piece is a living record of Odishan textile history — woven not just with thread, but with time, tradition, and the quiet mastery of two pairs of hands.
