Draped in the timeless elegance of handloom artistry, this Ikkat Silk Saree with Green Kanchipuram Border from Aananda Collections is a masterpiece of India's weaving heritage — where the ancient resist-dye tradition of Ikkat meets the grandeur of Kanchipuram's iconic zari craftsmanship.

Colour & Design: An off-white handloom silk body, luminous and serene, is beautifully anchored by a contrast green zari Kanchipuram border featuring a traditional elephant motif — a symbol of strength, wisdom, and auspiciousness woven in gold. The pallu showcases stunning multicolour Ikkat weaving, its characteristic soft-edged motifs of diamonds, scrolls, and paisleys unfolding in a burst of colour that is both ancient and alive. The blouse piece beautifully matches the pallu, completing the ensemble with artisanal cohesion.

Fabric: Pure Silk with intricate Ikkat weaving — a complex technique where threads are resist-dyed before weaving to create the distinctive patterns that seem to emerge from within the fabric itself.

Blouse: Matching blouse piece (included in the 6.29 metres).

Size: 6.29 metres (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches

Occasion: Weddings, festive celebrations, cultural events, and every special occasion that calls for the grandeur of authentic Indian handloom.

Wash Care: Dry clean only. Store in a muslin cloth away from direct sunlight.

Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.

Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. Each saree is handwoven — slight variations in Ikkat motif alignment are a mark of authentic craft.

Saree Chronicle

Ikkat is one of India's most celebrated weaving traditions, renowned for its intricate patterns created by resist-dyeing the yarn before weaving. The word "Ikkat" is derived from the Malay-Indonesian word "mengikat," meaning to tie or bind — reflecting the core technique of the craft. Practised across Odisha, Telangana, and Gujarat, this labour-intensive art requires remarkable precision: each thread is carefully bound with resist material and dip-dyed in a pre-planned pattern before being placed on the loom. When the threads are woven together, the dyed sections align to form the intended motif — but because the dye bleeds slightly at the edges of the resist, the resulting pattern has a characteristic soft, feathered outline that is the unmistakable signature of authentic Ikkat. India's oldest Ikkat tradition originates from Odisha, where the craft has been practised for over a thousand years. The Kanchipuram-style zari border on this saree draws from an entirely different but equally distinguished tradition — the weaving heritage of Kanchipuram (Kanchi) in Tamil Nadu, one of India's most celebrated silk weaving centres. Kanchipuram borders are distinguished by their use of pure zari (gold or silver metallic thread) woven in bold, structured patterns — often featuring temple motifs, checks, and geometric designs. The elephant motif on this border is deeply rooted in South Indian temple iconography, where the elephant is revered as a symbol of Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and a guardian of sacred spaces. When Ikkat silk from Odisha meets a Kanchipuram-style zari border, the result is a saree that carries the artistic depth of two of India's greatest weaving traditions — the fluid, resist-dyed poetry of Ikkat and the structured, golden grandeur of Kanchipuram — woven into a single, extraordinary piece.
