Maroon Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree
Maroon Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree
Low stock: 1 left
From the sacred village of Raghurajpur in Odisha — India's most celebrated Pattachitra heritage village — comes this Maroon Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree from Aananda Collections. A wearable painting of extraordinary beauty, where the eternal love story of Radha and Krishna unfolds across pure linen in the bold, intricate lines of one of India's oldest and most revered art traditions.
Colour & Design: A rich maroon pure linen body forms a warm, earthy canvas for exquisite hand-painted Pattachitra artwork depicting scenes from the Radha Krishna story — each figure rendered in the characteristic bold outlines, flat colour fills, and intricate floral borders that define authentic Pattachitra art. Every motif is painted entirely by hand by a Pattachitra artist from Raghurajpur, making each saree a unique, one-of-a-kind original. No two pieces are ever identical.
Fabric: Pure Linen — woven from the fibres of the flax plant, linen is one of the world's oldest and most prized natural textiles. Breathable, naturally textured, and with a characteristic cool, crisp hand, linen provides an ideal canvas for Pattachitra painting — its slightly absorbent surface holding the natural pigments with depth and clarity.
Blouse: Blouse piece included in the 6.29 metres.
Size: 6.29 metres (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches
Occasion: Festivals, cultural events, art gatherings, special occasions, and gifting — for the collector who wears their love of Indian art as naturally as they wear their saree.
Styling Note: Pairs beautifully with oxidised silver jewellery for a timeless ethnic look that honours the saree's artistic heritage.
Wash Care: Dry clean only.
Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.
Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. Each saree is hand-painted — no two pieces are identical, and slight variations in motif placement and colour are a mark of authentic artistry.

Pattachitra is one of India's oldest and most celebrated folk art traditions, originating in the state of Odisha and practised for over a thousand years. The word "Pattachitra" derives from the Sanskrit words "patta" (cloth) and "chitra" (picture) — literally, a picture on cloth. The tradition is centred in the village of Raghurajpur in the Puri district of Odisha, which has been designated a Heritage Crafts Village by the Government of India and is home to over a hundred families of Pattachitra artists, where the craft is passed from parent to child across generations. Pattachitra art is characterised by its bold, confident outlines, flat areas of vivid colour, and intricate floral and geometric borders that frame each composition. The subjects are drawn primarily from Hindu mythology — the life of Lord Jagannath, the love story of Radha and Krishna, scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, and the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. Traditionally, Pattachitra artists prepare their own natural pigments from minerals, plants, and earth — white from conch shells, red from hingula (cinnabar), yellow from haritala (orpiment), black from lamp soot — and apply them using brushes made from the hair of domestic animals. The outlines are drawn with extraordinary precision using a fine brush, and the colours are filled in flat, without shading, in the distinctive Pattachitra style. Linen — woven from the fibres of the flax plant — is one of the world's oldest natural textiles, with a history stretching back over 30,000 years. Its slightly textured, absorbent surface makes it an ideal canvas for Pattachitra painting, holding the natural pigments with a depth and clarity that smooth fabrics cannot achieve. The maroon ground of this saree provides a warm, earthy base that is deeply resonant with the colour vocabulary of Odishan art and temple culture. This Maroon Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree is a rare and irreplaceable work of art — a piece of living heritage from the hands of Raghurajpur's master artists.
