Handwoven Maroon Linen Jamdani Saree
Handwoven Maroon Linen Jamdani Saree
Low stock: 1 left
Woven in the finest linen with the delicate artistry of Jamdani, this Handwoven Maroon Linen Jamdani Saree from Aananda Collections is a celebration of handloom elegance and festive grace. Where the ancient motif vocabulary of Jamdani — birds in flight, woven thread by thread by hand — meets the cool, natural luxury of linen, the result is a saree of rare and beautiful character.
Colour & Design: Rich maroon linen forms a warm, earthy canvas for multicolour Jamdani bird buta motifs woven all over the body — each tiny bird placed individually by hand in the traditional Jamdani supplementary weft technique, the coloured threads building up against the maroon ground with a delicacy and precision that is deeply beautiful. A thin copper zari border adds a subtle festive shimmer that frames the saree without overpowering it. The beautifully handwoven Jamdani pallu completes the drape with a richness that rewards every closer look.
Fabric: Linen with handwoven Jamdani weave — breathable, lightweight, and perfect for extended festive wear. The natural texture of linen gives the Jamdani motifs a depth and warmth that cotton cannot achieve.
Blouse: Maroon plain running blouse piece with matching copper zari border included (33 inches).
Size: 5.5 metres (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches
Occasion: Festivals, pujas, cultural events, and celebratory gatherings where handloom artistry speaks for itself.
Wash Care: Dry clean recommended. If hand washing, use cold water with mild detergent. Do not wring or tumble dry. Store in a muslin cloth.
Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.
Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. Each saree is handwoven — slight variations are a mark of authentic craft.

Saree Chronicle
Saree Chronicle
Jamdani is one of the finest and most celebrated handloom traditions of the Indian subcontinent, originating in the region around Dhaka (in present-day Bangladesh) and recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013. Jamdani weaving is distinguished by its use of the discontinuous supplementary weft technique — a process where additional threads are individually woven into the base fabric by hand, one motif at a time, using a fine bamboo stick or needle. The bird buta — a small, stylised bird motif — is one of the most beloved and enduring motifs in the Jamdani tradition, with roots in the Persian and Mughal artistic vocabulary that shaped the Dhaka weaving ateliers of the 17th and 18th centuries. In Persian and Mughal art, birds are symbols of the soul, of divine love, and of the longing for union with the beloved — a symbolism drawn from the Sufi poetic tradition, where the bird's flight towards the divine is a central metaphor. In Jamdani, the bird buta is rendered in the characteristic style of the tradition — stylised, flat, and precise — each tiny bird woven individually by hand, so that a saree covered in bird butas represents hundreds of individual acts of weaving, each one a small, deliberate gesture of craft. The use of linen as the base fabric for Jamdani weaving is a contemporary innovation that brings together two of the world's oldest natural textile traditions. Linen — woven from the fibres of the flax plant — has a natural texture and breathability that gives the Jamdani motifs a depth and warmth that the smooth surface of cotton cannot achieve. The slightly irregular surface of linen interacts with the supplementary weft threads of the Jamdani motifs to create a fabric of extraordinary tactile richness. The copper zari border adds a third tradition to this saree — the ancient art of metallic thread weaving that has adorned Indian festive textiles for millennia. This Handwoven Maroon Linen Jamdani Saree is a beautiful meeting of three great textile traditions — Jamdani weaving, linen cloth, and zari embellishment — in a saree of rare and enduring beauty.
