Off White Pure Katan Silk Saree
Off White Pure Katan Silk Saree
Low stock: 1 left
Serene, luminous, and steeped in the artistry of two great Indian weaving traditions — this Off-White Pure Katan Silk Kalakshetra Saree from Aananda Collections is a rare confluence of Banarasi silk mastery and the classical motif vocabulary of Bishnupur, West Bengal. A saree for those who find beauty in heritage and elegance in restraint.
Colour & Design: The pristine off-white of pure Katan silk forms a luminous, meditative canvas for intricate handwoven motifs across the body. A gleaming golden zari border frames the saree with quiet grandeur, while the vibrant contrast pallu in yellow and green comes alive with handwoven bird motifs — inspired by the celebrated folk art tradition of Bishnupur. These birds, rendered in the classical Kalakshetra weaving style, carry the spirit of Bengal's artistic heritage into every fold of the drape. The dual-tone green and magenta running blouse piece adds a playful, unexpected flourish that completes the ensemble beautifully.

Saree Chronicle
Saree Chronicle
Katan silk is the most exalted form of Banarasi silk, woven in Varanasi using tightly twisted raw silk threads that give the fabric its signature crispness, smooth surface, and extraordinary lustre. Unlike other silks, Katan becomes more supple and radiant with age — a true heirloom fabric. The Kalakshetra weaving style draws its inspiration from the classical arts tradition of Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai, a cultural institution dedicated to preserving Bharatanatyam and traditional Indian arts. Sarees woven in the Kalakshetra style are distinguished by their temple-inspired motifs, classical borders, and a restrained yet deeply expressive design vocabulary. The bird motifs on this saree draw from the rich artistic heritage of Bishnupur — a historic town in the Bankura district of West Bengal, celebrated for its terracotta temples, Baluchari silk weaving, and a centuries-old tradition of depicting birds, animals, and mythological scenes in textile art. Bishnupur's weavers have long been known for their ability to translate the intricate iconography of Bengal's folk and classical traditions into silk, creating motifs that are at once narrative and ornamental. When Katan silk from Varanasi meets the Kalakshetra aesthetic and the bird motif vocabulary of Bishnupur, the result is a saree that carries the artistic depth of three great Indian traditions — woven into a single, extraordinary piece.
