Mehndi Green Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree
Mehndi Green Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree
Low stock: 1 left
From the sacred village of Raghurajpur in Odisha — India's most celebrated Pattachitra heritage village — comes this Mehndi Green Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree from Aananda Collections. A wearable painting alive with the joy of the Raas Leela — Radha and Krishna's eternal dance, and the Gopis swirling in devotion — rendered in multicolour Pattachitra art on the cool, natural canvas of pure linen.
Colour & Design: A rich mehndi green pure linen body forms a fresh, earthy canvas for exquisite multicolour hand-painted Pattachitra artwork depicting scenes from the Radha Krishna story and the Gopis dancing — the figures rendered in the characteristic bold outlines, vivid flat colour fills, and intricate floral borders that define authentic Pattachitra art. The multicolour palette of the painted scenes — reds, yellows, whites, and blacks — glows against the mehndi green ground with a festive, jewel-like brilliance. Every motif is painted entirely by hand by a Pattachitra artist from Raghurajpur, making each saree a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
Fabric: Pure Linen — woven from the fibres of the flax plant, breathable, naturally textured, and with a characteristic cool, crisp hand. Its slightly absorbent surface holds the natural Pattachitra pigments with depth and clarity.
Blouse: Blouse piece included in the 6.29 metres.
Size: 6.29 metres (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches
Occasion: Festivals, cultural events, art gatherings, Janmashtami, special occasions, and gifting — for the collector who wears their love of Indian art as naturally as they wear their saree.
Styling Note: Pairs beautifully with oxidised silver jewellery for a timeless ethnic look that honours the saree's artistic heritage.
Wash Care: Dry clean only.
Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.
Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. Each saree is hand-painted — no two pieces are identical, and slight variations in motif placement and colour are a mark of authentic artistry.

Saree Chronicle
Saree Chronicle
Pattachitra is one of India's oldest and most celebrated folk art traditions, originating in the state of Odisha and practised for over a thousand years. The word "Pattachitra" derives from the Sanskrit words "patta" (cloth) and "chitra" (picture) — literally, a picture on cloth. The tradition is centred in the village of Raghurajpur in the Puri district of Odisha, designated a Heritage Crafts Village by the Government of India, where over a hundred families of Pattachitra artists have maintained the craft across generations. The Raas Leela — the divine circle dance of Krishna and the Gopis — is one of the most beloved subjects in Pattachitra art, and one of the most joyful expressions of the Bhakti tradition in Indian visual culture. In the Raas Leela, Krishna multiplies himself to dance simultaneously with each Gopi, creating a circle of divine love and devotion that has inspired poets, musicians, and artists across the subcontinent for centuries. In Pattachitra, the Gopis are depicted in the characteristic style of the tradition — bold outlines, flat colour fills, stylised figures with elongated eyes and graceful postures, surrounded by intricate floral borders that frame the composition like the carved borders of an Odishan temple. Pattachitra artists traditionally prepare their own natural pigments from minerals, plants, and earth — white from conch shells, red from hingula (cinnabar), yellow from haritala (orpiment), black from lamp soot — and apply them using fine brushes made from the hair of domestic animals. Mehndi green — the warm, earthy green of henna leaves — is a colour of deep cultural significance in India, associated with fertility, celebration, and the sacred rituals of marriage and festivity. On the natural texture of pure linen, mehndi green takes on a particular warmth and depth, providing a ground that is both earthy and luminous for the multicolour Pattachitra scenes painted upon it. This Mehndi Green Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree is a rare and irreplaceable work of art — a piece of living heritage from the hands of Raghurajpur's master artists, carrying the joy of the Raas Leela in every brushstroke.
