Yellow Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree
Yellow Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree
Low stock: 1 left
Radiant, auspicious, and alive with devotion — this Yellow Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree from Aananda Collections is a wearable painting of rare luminosity. Yellow is the colour of haritala — the golden orpiment pigment that Pattachitra artists have ground and applied by hand for over a thousand years — and on this pure linen canvas, it becomes the ground from which the eternal story of Radha and Krishna glows.
Colour & Design: A warm, luminous yellow pure linen body forms a radiant, sun-drenched canvas for exquisite hand-painted Pattachitra artwork depicting scenes from the Radha Krishna story — each figure rendered in the characteristic bold outlines, vivid flat colour fills, and intricate floral borders that define authentic Pattachitra art. The multicolour painted scenes — reds, blacks, whites, and greens — glow against the yellow ground with a warmth and clarity that is deeply resonant with the colour vocabulary of Odishan sacred art. Every motif is painted entirely by hand by a Pattachitra artist from Raghurajpur, making each saree a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
Fabric: Pure Linen — woven from the fibres of the flax plant, breathable, naturally textured, and with a characteristic cool, crisp hand. Its slightly absorbent surface holds the natural Pattachitra pigments with depth and clarity.
Blouse: Blouse piece included in the 6.29 metres.
Size: 6.29 metres (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches
Occasion: Festivals, cultural events, art gatherings, Vasant Panchami, Basant celebrations, special occasions, and gifting — for the collector who wears their love of Indian sacred art as naturally as they wear their saree.
Styling Note: Pairs beautifully with oxidised silver jewellery for a timeless ethnic look that honours the saree's artistic heritage.
Wash Care: Dry clean only.
Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.
Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. Each saree is hand-painted — no two pieces are identical, and slight variations in motif placement and colour are a mark of authentic artistry.

Saree Chronicle
Saree Chronicle
Pattachitra is one of India's oldest and most celebrated folk art traditions, originating in the state of Odisha and practised for over a thousand years. The word "Pattachitra" derives from the Sanskrit words "patta" (cloth) and "chitra" (picture) — literally, a picture on cloth. The tradition is centred in the village of Raghurajpur in the Puri district of Odisha, designated a Heritage Crafts Village by the Government of India, where the craft is passed from parent to child across generations in over a hundred artist families. Yellow holds a place of extraordinary significance in both the Pattachitra tradition and in Indian sacred culture. In Pattachitra, yellow is derived from haritala — orpiment, a naturally occurring arsenic sulphide mineral with a brilliant golden-yellow colour that has been used as a pigment in Indian art for millennia. Haritala is one of the five primary natural pigments of the Pattachitra palette, ground by hand and mixed with a natural binding agent before being applied to the cloth with fine brushes. The use of haritala connects Pattachitra to some of the oldest painting traditions in the world — the same mineral pigment appears in ancient Indian manuscript paintings, temple murals, and the illuminated manuscripts of the Mughal era. In Indian sacred culture, yellow is the colour of knowledge, wisdom, and the divine light of the sun — associated with Lord Vishnu, whose yellow garments (pitambara) are one of his most recognisable attributes, and with the festival of Vasant Panchami, when yellow is worn as a celebration of spring, learning, and the goddess Saraswati. On the Radha Krishna narrative depicted in this saree, yellow carries a particular resonance — it is the colour of Krishna's pitambara, the golden garment that identifies him as the divine lover and the supreme being. On the natural texture of pure linen, yellow takes on a warmth and luminosity that is deeply resonant with the colour vocabulary of Odishan sacred art. This Yellow Hand-Painted Pattachitra Linen Saree is a rare and irreplaceable work of art — a piece of living heritage that carries the golden light of India's most ancient pigment tradition in every brushstroke.
