Black Cotton Saree With Dhakai Border
Black Cotton Saree With Dhakai Border
Low stock: 1 left
Bold, graphic, and distinctly Aananda — this Black Cotton Saree with Dhakai Border is a designer piece that brings together the drama of deep black, the artistry of multicolour embroidered butas, and the heritage of Dhakai Jamdani border weaving in one striking ensemble. A saree that is as much a statement of craft as it is of style.
Colour & Design: A rich black mixed cotton body is adorned with multicolour embroidered butas scattered across the surface — each motif adding a burst of colour and texture against the deep black ground. The standout detail is the white Jamdani border with red piping — a handwoven Dhakai-style border that frames the saree with a bold, graphic contrast, the red piping adding a sharp, festive edge. The black blouse piece with embroidery on the sleeves completes the ensemble with a cohesive, artisanal finish.
Fabric: Mixed Cotton — lightweight, breathable, and comfortable for extended wear, with a smooth surface that makes the embroidered butas and Jamdani border stand out with clarity.
Blouse: 1 metre black blouse piece with embroidery on the sleeves included.
Size: 5.5 metres approx. + 1 metre blouse piece | Width: 48 inches
Occasion: Festive celebrations, cultural events, parties, and every occasion that calls for a designer saree with a bold, contemporary edge.

Saree Chronicle
Saree Chronicle
The Dhakai Jamdani border on this saree draws from one of the Indian subcontinent's most celebrated handloom traditions — Jamdani weaving, originating in the region around Dhaka (in present-day Bangladesh) and recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013. The Jamdani border technique uses the discontinuous supplementary weft method, where additional threads are individually woven into the base fabric by hand to create the characteristic geometric and floral patterns that define the Dhakai aesthetic. The white Jamdani border with red piping on this saree is a distinctly contemporary interpretation of this tradition — the crisp white of the handwoven border against the deep black body creates a graphic, high-contrast frame that is bold and modern, while the red piping adds a festive accent that connects the design to India's long tradition of using red as a marker of celebration and auspiciousness. The multicolour embroidered butas on the body introduce a second craft tradition — embroidery, where coloured threads are applied to the surface of the fabric using needle and thread to create raised, textured motifs. Unlike Jamdani weaving, where motifs are integral to the fabric structure, embroidery sits on the surface, creating a tactile depth and colour richness that complements the flat weave of the cotton ground. The combination of a handwoven Jamdani border and surface embroidery in a single saree is a distinctly Aananda design sensibility — bringing together two different craft traditions in a piece that is both heritage-rooted and thoroughly contemporary. This Black Cotton Saree with Dhakai Border is a designer piece that wears its craft credentials as boldly as it wears its colour.
