Every saree tells a story — but this one is painted by hand. This Blue Handpainted Pure Silk Saree from Aananda Collections, crafted in Murshidabad, West Bengal, is a wearable work of art where a skilled artist's brush has brought the border and pallu to life with delicate, one-of-a-kind motifs. No two pieces are ever identical — making this saree as unique as the woman who wears it.

Colour & Design: A bright, luminous blue forms the canvas for this saree's most extraordinary feature — hand-painted motifs adorning the border and pallu with the fluid grace that only a human hand can achieve. The brushwork is delicate and expressive, each stroke a testament to the artist's skill and vision. The vivid blue hue exudes charm and elegance, making this saree a perfect choice for any occasion where you want to wear something truly singular.

Fabric: Pure Mulberry Silk from Murshidabad — exceptionally fine, featherlight, and easy to drape, with a natural lustre that makes the hand-painted colours appear even more vivid and alive.

Blouse: Blue running blouse piece (included in the 6.09 metres).

Size: 6.09 metres approx. (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches

Occasion: Cultural events, art gatherings, festive celebrations, weddings, and every occasion that calls for something beautifully, unmistakably unique.

Wash Care: Dry clean only.

Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.

Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. As this is a hand-painted saree, each piece is unique — slight variations in motif placement and brushwork are inherent to the craft and a mark of its authenticity.

Saree Chronicle

Murshidabad silk has its roots in the historic district of Murshidabad in West Bengal, once the seat of the Nawabs of Bengal and a thriving centre of trade and culture. The silk produced here comes from mulberry silkworms (Bombyx mori) reared on mulberry trees along the banks of the Bhagirathi river — a geography that lends the silk its distinctive fineness and natural sheen. Murshidabad silk is celebrated for being among the lightest and most supple pure silks in India, providing an ideal ground for surface embellishment. The tradition of hand-painting on silk — known in various regional craft vocabularies as "hath se bana" or simply hand-painted silk — is one of the most intimate and expressive forms of textile art. Unlike block printing or weaving, where patterns are repeated through mechanical means, hand-painting is entirely freehand: the artist applies natural or azo-free dyes directly onto the silk using fine brushes, creating motifs that are fluid, organic, and never perfectly identical. This means that every hand-painted saree is, in the truest sense, a one-of-a-kind original — a canvas that carries the artist's individual touch in every stroke. The craft demands not only technical skill but also an artistic sensibility, as the painter must account for the silk's absorbency, the flow of the dye, and the overall composition of the design. This Blue Handpainted Pure Silk Saree from Murshidabad is a rare meeting of two great traditions — the legendary lightness of Bengal's finest silk and the irreplaceable beauty of art made entirely by hand.
