This Green & White Designer Soft Dhakai Jamdani brings together three distinct Bengali craft traditions in a single, extraordinary piece. The Jamdani weaving — recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity — uses the discontinuous supplementary weft technique, where additional threads are individually woven into the base fabric by hand to create the characteristic floral and geometric motifs. The patli pallu design — where the pallu is woven as a distinct, separate section in a contrasting colour and pattern — is a traditional saree construction technique that creates a dramatic visual shift between the body and the end of the drape, giving the saree a structured, formal elegance. The bottle green hand Kantha embroidery on the border and pleats draws from one of Bengal's oldest and most beloved needlework traditions. Kantha — derived from the Sanskrit word for "throat" or "rags" — originated as a humble running stitch used by women to quilt layers of old fabric together, but evolved over centuries into an art form of extraordinary beauty. The running stitch, applied by hand one thread at a time, creates a slightly raised, textured surface that adds warmth and depth to the crisp Jamdani weave beneath it. The sequin embellishment on the border draws on India's long tradition of using reflective materials in textile ornamentation — from the mirror work (shisha) of Kutchi embroidery to the sitara work of Mughal-era court textiles — reimagined here as a contemporary festive accent. The combination of Jamdani weaving, Kantha embroidery, and sequin embellishment in a single Aananda designer piece represents a distinctly Bengali creative sensibility — where the ancient and the contemporary, the woven and the stitched, the matte and the shimmering, are brought together in a saree that is entirely its own.
