Pure, unhurried, and rooted in craft — this Off-White Block Printed Murshidabad Silk Saree from Aananda Collections is a celebration of the beauty that emerges when the finest silk meets the oldest printing tradition. The natural off-white of Murshidabad silk, adorned with bold black and red block-printed motifs, creates a palette that is at once timeless and deeply expressive.

Colour & Design: The pristine, unbleached off-white of pure Murshidabad silk forms a luminous canvas for striking black and red block-printed designs on the border and pallu — each motif stamped by hand using carved wooden blocks, carrying the slight imperfections that are the hallmark of authentic block printing. The bold colour contrast of off-white, black, and red is graphic yet warm, traditional yet effortlessly contemporary. The off-white running blouse piece, with its thin black and red border, completes the ensemble with quiet, cohesive elegance.

Fabric: Pure Mulberry Silk from Murshidabad — exceptionally fine, featherlight, and easy to drape, with a natural lustre that makes the block-printed colours appear vivid and rich against the pale ground.

Blouse: Off-white running blouse piece with thin black and red border (included in the 6.09 metres).

Size: 6.09 metres approx. (inclusive of blouse piece) | Width: 46 inches

Occasion: Festive celebrations, cultural events, pujas, office wear, art gatherings, and every occasion that calls for understated, artisanal elegance.

Wash Care: Dry clean only.

Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.

Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings. As this is a block-printed saree, slight variations in print alignment and ink density are inherent to the craft and a mark of its handmade authenticity.

Saree Chronicle

Murshidabad silk has its roots in the historic district of Murshidabad in West Bengal, once the seat of the Nawabs of Bengal and a thriving centre of trade and culture. The silk produced here comes from mulberry silkworms (Bombyx mori) reared on mulberry trees along the banks of the Bhagirathi river — a geography that lends the silk its distinctive fineness and natural sheen. Murshidabad silk is celebrated for being among the lightest and most supple pure silks in India, providing an ideal ground for surface embellishment. Block printing is one of India's oldest and most widespread textile arts, with a history stretching back over four thousand years. The process involves carving intricate patterns into wooden blocks — typically teak or sheesham wood — which are then dipped in dye and pressed firmly onto the fabric by hand, one block at a time. Each impression is made individually, requiring the printer to align the block with precision to create a continuous, repeating pattern. The slight variations in pressure, ink absorption, and alignment that occur naturally in hand block printing are what give block-printed textiles their characteristic warmth and vitality — qualities that machine printing cannot replicate. The black and red colour palette used in this saree has deep roots in Indian textile tradition: red has long been associated with auspiciousness, celebration, and festivity, while black provides graphic definition and depth. Together on the natural off-white of Murshidabad silk, they create a palette that is both ancient and enduringly modern. This Off-White Block Printed Murshidabad Silk Saree is a beautiful expression of two of India's most enduring craft traditions — the legendary lightness of Bengal's finest silk and the timeless art of the wooden block.
