Vibrant, graceful, and steeped in craft — this Purple Cotton Dhakai Jamdani Saree from Aananda Collections is a celebration of Bengal's finest handloom tradition, crafted for women who carry elegance effortlessly. A saree where the richness of colour and the delicacy of hand-woven motifs speak in perfect harmony.

Colour & Design: Rich, deep purple Cotton Dhakai Jamdani forms a vibrant, immersive canvas for intricate floral motifs woven across the entire body — each one placed individually by hand in the traditional Jamdani technique, the needle moving thread by thread to build up patterns that seem to bloom from within the fabric itself. The all-over floral motif design, without a contrasting border to interrupt the colour, creates a saree of rare visual unity — bold in colour, delicate in detail, and deeply beautiful in its entirety.

Fabric: Blended Cotton — lightweight, breathable, and comfortable for all-day wear, with the characteristic subtle sheen of Dhakai Jamdani weaving.

Blouse: Separate 1 metre running blouse piece included.

Size: 5.5 metres approx. + 1 metre blouse piece | Width: 46 inches

Occasion: Festive gatherings, pujas, cultural celebrations, casual outings, and every occasion where understated elegance speaks for itself.

Wash Care: Dry clean only.

Pre-stitching: Available at an additional cost of ₹1,700. Please provide your waist, hip, and desired saree length measurements.

Note: Colour may slightly vary from images due to photographic lighting and monitor settings.

Saree Chronicle

Jamdani is one of the finest and most celebrated handloom traditions of the Indian subcontinent, originating in the region around Dhaka (in present-day Bangladesh) and recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013. The word "Jamdani" is believed to derive from the Persian words "jam" (flower) and "dani" (vase or container), reflecting the floral motifs that are the hallmark of the tradition. Jamdani weaving is distinguished by its use of the discontinuous supplementary weft technique — a process where additional threads are individually woven into the base fabric by hand, one motif at a time, using a fine bamboo stick or needle. Unlike embroidery, where thread is applied to the surface of a finished fabric, Jamdani motifs are woven directly into the structure of the cloth, making them an integral part of the fabric itself. The all-over floral motif design — where motifs are distributed across the entire body of the saree rather than confined to the border and pallu — is one of the most labour-intensive and visually immersive expressions of the Jamdani tradition. Each motif must be individually placed and woven, meaning that a densely patterned all-over Jamdani can take significantly longer to complete than a border-only design. The result is a fabric of extraordinary richness — where the surface appears to be alive with pattern, yet the hand of the cloth remains light and fluid. Purple, in the context of Indian textile tradition, carries associations of royalty, spiritual depth, and the divine — a colour that has been prized in court textiles and sacred garments across the subcontinent for centuries. On the subtle sheen of Cotton Dhakai Jamdani, purple takes on a particular luminosity, the woven floral motifs catching the light to create a surface that is both rich and delicate. This Purple Cotton Dhakai Jamdani Saree is a beautiful expression of the Jamdani tradition at its most immersive — where colour and craft become inseparable.
