Fresh, earthy, and full of festive spirit — this Sap Green Cotton Dhakai Jamdani Saree from Aananda Collections brings the vibrancy of nature into Bengal's finest handloom tradition. The colour of new leaves and monsoon fields, paired with the golden warmth of yellow — a combination that feels as alive as the season it evokes.

Colour & Design: Lush sap green Cotton Dhakai Jamdani forms a vibrant, nature-inspired canvas adorned with delicate floral butas woven across the body — each motif placed individually by hand in the traditional Jamdani technique, giving the surface a subtle texture and depth that breathes with the fabric. A contrasting golden yellow karat border frames the saree with warmth and festive energy, the green and yellow together evoking the colours of turmeric and fresh foliage that mark Bengal's most joyful celebrations.

Fabric: Blended Cotton — lightweight, breathable, and comfortable for all-day wear, with the characteristic subtle sheen of Dhakai Jamdani weaving.

Blouse: Separate 1 metre running blouse piece included.

Size: 5.5 metres approx. + 1 metre blouse piece | Width: 46 inches

Occasion: Festive gatherings, pujas, cultural celebrations, casual outings, and every occasion where fresh, vibrant elegance makes a joyful statement.

Saree Chronicle

Jamdani is one of the finest and most celebrated handloom traditions of the Indian subcontinent, originating in the region around Dhaka (in present-day Bangladesh) and recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013. The word "Jamdani" is believed to derive from the Persian words "jam" (flower) and "dani" (vase or container), reflecting the floral motifs that are the hallmark of the tradition. Jamdani weaving is distinguished by its use of the discontinuous supplementary weft technique — a process where additional threads are individually woven into the base fabric by hand, one motif at a time, using a fine bamboo stick or needle. Unlike embroidery, where thread is applied to the surface of a finished fabric, Jamdani motifs are woven directly into the structure of the cloth, making them an integral part of the fabric itself. The Cotton Dhakai Jamdani is prized for its featherlight breathability, delicate motifs, and the subtle sheen that makes it equally suited for festive and everyday elegance. Green holds a place of deep significance in Indian and Bengali cultural tradition — it is the colour of nature, fertility, and new beginnings, associated with the monsoon rains that bring life to the land, the fresh leaves of the tulsi plant that mark sacred spaces, and the vibrant green of the shankha (conch shell bangles) worn by Bengali married women. Yellow, the colour of turmeric and mustard flowers, is equally auspicious — associated with knowledge, prosperity, and the warmth of the sun. Together, sap green and golden yellow create a palette that is deeply rooted in the natural and cultural landscape of Bengal — the colours of paddy fields, festival garlands, and the joyful abundance of the harvest season. This Sap Green Cotton Dhakai Jamdani Saree is a beautiful expression of how the Jamdani tradition draws its colour vocabulary from the living world around it.
