Sunshine yellow, ancient art, and the shimmer of gold — this Yellow Kalamkari Gaji Silk Saree from Aananda Collections is a joyful celebration of India's most expressive textile traditions. Where the storytelling art of Kalamkari meets the luxurious drape of Gaji silk, the result is a saree that is as visually rich as it is effortlessly wearable.

Colour & Design: Woven in a vibrant, luminous yellow, this saree is adorned with a mesmerising Kalamkari-inspired digital print that brings the body to life with intricate motifs drawn from India's ancient pen-and-brush art tradition. A perfect blend of tradition and contemporary style, designed for festive occasions and grand celebrations.

Saree Chronicle

Kalamkari is one of India's oldest and most revered textile art forms, with a history spanning over three thousand years. The word "Kalamkari" is derived from the Persian words "kalam" (pen) and "kari" (work) — literally meaning "pen work" — reflecting the craft's origins in hand-drawing and hand-painting intricate designs onto fabric using a bamboo or palm pen dipped in natural dyes. Traditionally practised in Andhra Pradesh — particularly in the towns of Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam — Kalamkari art depicts scenes from Hindu mythology, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, and nature, rendered in a distinctive style characterised by bold outlines, earthy colours, and intricate detail. The Srikalahasti style is entirely freehand, while the Machilipatnam style uses carved wooden blocks. Today, Kalamkari motifs are also rendered through digital printing, allowing the art's intricate vocabulary of peacocks, lotuses, paisleys, and mythological figures to be applied to a wider range of fabrics with exceptional colour fidelity. Gaji Silk — also known in some traditions as Mashru silk — is a satin-weave fabric with roots in Gujarat's rich textile heritage, celebrated for its smooth, lustrous surface and lightweight drape. The Lagdi pallu is a traditional weaving technique where the pallu (the decorative end of the saree) is woven separately with a richer, heavier weave — often incorporating zari — and then attached to the saree body, creating a dramatic contrast between the printed body and the woven pallu. Gota Patti, the Rajasthani craft of applying narrow strips of gold or silver ribbon to fabric, adds a final layer of handcrafted heritage to this saree. This Yellow Kalamkari Gaji Silk Saree brings together four distinct Indian craft traditions — Kalamkari art, Gaji silk weaving, Lagdi pallu construction, and Gota Patti embellishment — into one luminous, celebratory drape.
